This type of headache requires an emergent visit to the nearest emergency department or medical facility for further evaluation. Evaluations typically include a brain MRI or CT scan, as well as blood work and probably a lumbar puncture. Treatment consists of quickly beginning antibiotic and/or antiviral medications intravenously.
