This is a very exciting time for migraine patients (FINALLY)! The only migraine specific abortive medication we have had since 1992 has been the triptans (Sumatriptan came out first). Unfortunately, about 25% of patients don’t respond to triptans. We now have 2 brand new classes which are FDA approved for migraine abortive treatment with the Gepants (Ubrogepant, Rimegepant) and the Ditans (Lasmiditan). We have 3 once monthly CGRP antagonists self injections for prevention (Aimovig, Emgality, Ajovy), and a once quarterly IV CGRP antagonist (Eptinezumab). There are many things in the pipeline coming as well!!
